Challenges[]

Immunity Challenge: Pop the Chariot
In the middle of the jungle, team members must transport a wagon to shore through an obstacle course. Once at shore, the wheels of the wagon must be dismantled and converted into a turnstile, which when turned enough, will release six paddles. Six tribe members will then use the now wheel-less wagon as a raft and paddle out to sea to retrieve large puzzle pieces. Once the six paddlers return to the beach, the remaining four members will assemble the puzzle. First team to solve the puzzle wins immunity.
Winner: Audrey, Deejay, Francis, Gilbert, Ivy, Janice, Shana, Shelby, Taylor and Tim

Story[]

Day 1[]

Off the coast of the Caribbean, twenty Americans from different walks of life will embark in a journey of a lifetime.

People look at me the first time and they tell me I must be a model or some trophy girlfriend, and I say, I'm a racecar driver! They are shocked, very shocked! Believe me, my first dates are always at the racetrack. If they can't handle that, they can't date me. That's my mantra on Survivor. I'm gonna be all cutesy on the surface, but I'll stab the competition in the back with a smile.

–Audrey

Coming here, I knew Christians are given a bad rep on reality television, but I will not use God as leverage to win this game. I'll win on my terms. I'll do my thing and repent later.

–Joseph

People think African Americans are just loud, boisterous, ghetto, whatever. I grew up in a family of scientists, and I will prove that Black people can be smart too...but that doesn't mean I will not bring "hood" to the game if need be.

–Shelby

The twenty castaways are rowing a boat when a speedboat containing Jeff Probst arrives. Jeff welcomes them to Survivor: The Caribbean.

Quote1Damon's right. For the first time, you will all live on one beach under one tribe. You will be divided into teams before every challenge but you will remain on this tribe. Immunity Challenges will be held differently. Your tribe name is Taino. Here is a map to your new home *Jeff tosses map, Gilbert catches*. Good luck.Quote2- Probst
I know Survivor normally begins with a first day curve ball, but I didn't expect THIS kind of curve ball! I will be living with 19 other people, and in a game where social interaction is everything, this is going to be a huge challenge for everyone. This game will will start in total pandemonium. I'm scared, but excited as well. Let's get it on!

–Loretta

I was sizing up my competition and I saw my hometown's former mayor catching the map, and I can't be wrong, he's Gilbert Portman. We lived in Massachusetts for quite a while before moving to New York; and I vaguely remember watching the news saying he was removed from office because of corruption charges. I will be weary of him because Survivor is about politics, and he's a politician. I want nothing to do with him, so I want him gone early.

–Ivy

I came to this game with a heavy baggage. Ten years ago I was mayor of my hometown and ran for senator, but I had to back out because I was framed. I lived a private life after that and not give a damn about politics. So now, I'm going to bare myself to my core and prove I'm not the corrupt politician the public knew me as.

–Gilbert

The castaways arrive at their beach, and to everyone's sigh of relief, fishing gear and rations of rice and beans...but no flint. The worried castaways realize they will have to make fire on their own.

Today's going to be very crucial. Everyone's here. There's going to be groups of people scattering around the beach and alliances will be made in a snap. I have to find one immediately.

–Damon

Tim steps up and insists to have volunteers to do one of three shelter, fire and water. Disliking Tim's approach, Francis steals Tim’s thunder and delegates tasks based from his first impressions.

  • Shelter: Himself, Gilbert, Loretta, Angela, Janice, Craig, Deejay, Tim
  • Water: Ivy, Damon, Shana, Miriam, Shelby, Libby, Delaney
  • Fire: Audrey, Jayden, Taylor, Joseph, Kai

Audrey surprises the fire group by making fire using a fire saw. Francis, not knowing who did the fire gives the men the credit.

It's just day one and Francis' machismo is starting to wear me thin. I made the fire, man. What did he do? He ignored me and gave the men credit. His ignorance is just apparent.

–Audrey

While preparing the roof fronds, Loretta, Angela, Janice deem Francis’ actions as sexist. Janice wanted to make fire, insisting she can make one in a blink of an eye. The three agree to vote Francis out the earliest opportunity. They approach Tim to tell him the plan.

It's the first day, and Francis is being a dick already. He did what I tried avoiding earlier. He's going the first time he goes to Tribal Council, and it won't be hard to convince these people to put him to his place.

–Tim

The shelter is finished by afternoon, after which he castaways circle around to get to know each other. Damon reveals he is a drag queen while Joseph reveals he is a missionary. Miriam reveals she lived most of her life in an Amish community before moving out to the city. While the tribe shares each other's lives, Taylor vaguely remembers Shana from somewhere.

I'm a guy, so I definitely have watched porn before, and I can't be wrong, that Shana girl is a porn star and I've watched some "flicks" of her. Should I tell her I know her "day job" is? It would be very embarrassing to ask her, "Hey, did you do porn before?".

–Taylor

As the group finish their conversation, the entire Taino tribe begins to split in groups.

Once that getting-to-know-you circle is over, the all-important alliances begin to form. Different groups of people start to find their vote buddies, and with this kind of format where everyone's on the same beach, it's total pandemonium. Are we the people of anarchy?!

–Shelby

Several pairs of castaways scatter around the vast Taino beach, each forming their alliances; however, these pairings hooking up either have nothing in common or the most unlikely to pair up. In the forest, Shana takes Taylor to the woods, and Taylor finds the guts to ask her if Shana did some pornography. Instead of becoming offended, Shana laughs by merely asking him "so, you've watched?" Taylor turns red in embarrassment before answering a shy "yes". The two form an alliance and bring in Audrey and Delaney. Delaney suggests to bring in more alliance members, but Audrey insists not to for the mean time, stating they should be as low-key as possible, and having more people could compromise the plan.

In today's Survivor, alliances are formed right from the get-go; but with everyone on the same tribe, it's complete chaos. I found myself in alliance with Audrey, Shana and Taylor. I would like to suggest if we could still gain more allies and at least have a 10-person alliance. That way, no matter how are we going to be grouped we still control the game.

–Delaney

Meanwhile, other alliances are made. Jayden and Kai bond while collecting firewood; and the missionary Joseph and the drag queen Damon make an unlikely alliance. Damon laughs at the idea of a liberated drag queen making arrangements with a christian.

Joseph is a christian...a christian with abs!

–Damon

I don't mind Damon. Damon's a fun dude, and I love joking around with him about a missionary like me having to anything with someone like him. I am actually excited how it will all unfold on television *laughs*

–Joseph

While collecting fruit, Ivy, a former citizen of Massachusetts, brings up to Gilbert his past as a politician. Gilbert cuts to the chase, directly admitting his past as a mayor. Gilbert states he is disturbed by the idea that someone still knows him ten years after his resignation. Gilbert shares his side of of the controversies he was lumped into. While it seems Ivy buys what he says, she remains weary of him. Gilbert states he came there to bare himself to "destroy all his filters." The two agree to make an alliance, but Ivy has different reasons for aligning with him.

I've been under public scrutiny when I was a mayor. People know my name, but they don't know me. I came here not just to play the game I love, but also to introduce myself in a different perspective.

–Gilbert

I can see through Gilbert. He could be politicking me for all I know, but if he does, he's doing a great job at it. I agreed to make an alliance with him not because I trust him, but being a politician, he must be very good at persuading people, and I could use him to gather people for my interests.

–Ivy

Initially overwhelmed by the amount of people at camp, Libby decides to roam around and join different conversations. What gets her interest the most is Miriam, Angela, Loretta and Craig's. Assuming Miriam is rather old-fashioned and would align herself with the older crowd, Libby joins them and asks her to be part of her alliance.

To be able to see through Libby's actions doesn't require brain surgery. She has roamed around camp more than anyone. It's pretty obvious she's buttering people up, fishing for alliances; and to know a lot during the first day is great on paper, but if you're just as a kiss-ass as Libby, it won't take long before your ass is outta here.

–Loretta

I joined the older crowd Loretta, Craig and Miriam because I don't want to be stereotyped as a young person aligning with the younger crowd. I wanna get along with everyone, and I think I'm doing a great job. The person in my sights right now is Miriam. She might be a great goat to take to the end. She's amish, and she's likely to be backward thinking. I don't get it why she's here or how did she end up here on Survivor.

–Libby

Liberty is rather...unusual. She has been part of every single conversation today, and people notice it very easily. I may be Amish, but I am not in any way oblivious as to what's happening around me. You see, the reason why I left the Amish community is because I don't want to be stuck in time for the rest of my life. My parents at first never approved of it, but they learned to accept what I want to do in life, but still uphold to my belief systems. The first show I watched was Survivor, and I got hooked. I guess I have to play dumb like Libby expects me to for a while to get further.

–Miriam

First night at Taino, everyone is having fun continuing to get to know each other. Damon gets along, but as the tribe prepares to sleep, he sits by the beach crying.

I can put up a face in sticky situations very easily, but once it's all over, I'd be rolling up to a corner, sobbing. It's been a while since I had contact with my friends back home and I'm missing them so much. They've been my rock since I came out. My parents kicked me out of the house because they can't take it. They didn't love me enough. I moved from house to house, til I ended up working as a drag queen where I found my family. Beyond the smiles and laughter is a person begging for some love. I have to weather this. I will!

–Damon

Day 2[]

Craig, a longtime fan of the show, proves his worth by utilizing his fishing skills. With Francis' assistance, he returns to the beach with a two full buckets of fish, to his tribemates' amazement. Craig returns to sea to catch more.

Being a super-fan of the show, I know for a fact that providers are close to indispensable. Now with everyone on the same tribe, more the same. There are a lot of greedy bellies to be filled and they'll need me if they want to survive out here.

–Craig

Libby joins Angela and Loretta's conversation. Libby asks who should be the first to go. Both women agree they have not decided on it yet, and it will all fall down on how the first Immunity Challenge will pan out. Assuming they could be targeting her, she throws out Miriam's name in an attempt to save herself.

Angela and Loretta are both undecided as to who to go yet. They could be telling the truth, or they could be lying to me and starts to stir things up...by targeting me. Miriam's Amish. She's awkward, and I believe it's an easy sell to take her out.

–Libby

Libby is like a mosquito. She flies in any conversation and bugs you. It's just Day 2 and her level of paranoia is like she's on Day 37. What the hell?!

–Angela

Miriam walks by and Angela takes her. Angela tells Miriam Libby is targeting her. Miriam breaks down, saying that Libby never gotten to know her.

I moved out of my old life to make something new for myself and broaden my horizons, then someone like Liberty goes along. The likes of her, judgmental, patronizing, snooty, are my biggest obstacles in this game and in life. It's ironic that she's a law student. Her close-mindedness is beyond me. Now she's painting a target on my back, I have to think of something to take it off me.

–Miriam

In the shelter, Francis forms an alliance with the bros: Jayden, Kai, Gilbert, Tim and Deejay, not knowing that Gilbert already has an alliance with Ivy. Kai and Jayden share a mutual distrust towards Francis and promise to keep their options open regardless.

We need to keep the boys strong because it's pretty much an individual game out of the gate, so us strong men could prime targets.

–Francis

I am keeping my options open. I already have an alliance but following Francis' argument, it's pretty easy to convince the weaker people to take us off this early. It's like the merge already, and it's just Day 2! That's a possibility, so my plans are not set in stone yet.

–Gilbert

While collecting firewood, Damon and Joseph discuss who should go. Joseph throws in several names: Francis (sexist), Libby (chatty), Miriam (socially inept) and Angela (oldest woman). Damon contemplates he can use Miriam later, but Libby is a law student and could argue her way out of any situation. Damon and Joseph then decide to go deep in the jungle to look for a Hidden Immunity Idol. Damon finds a roll of burlap underneath a tree root. Damon opens it and finds a clue, saying that at site of the first Immunity Challenge. In between the two finish mats is a flag (one of the background flags that states "outwit, outplay, outlast" seen in all challenge sites), and the idol is hidden behind the flag, tied to the flagpole.

Joseph and I found an idol clue, and it says the idol is at the first Immunity Challenge, and it's in plain sight. How can I grab that thing without prying eyes?

–Damon

Audrey and Miriam return to camp with Tree Mail, notifying them of tomorrow's Immunity Challenge. Everyone is on edge because they do not know if the challenge is going to be team-based or individual.

I'm on the edge of my seat now because Tree Mail just arrived and told us about the first challenge. I don't know if it's team versus team or individual. I am scared, but excited at the same time! I can't wait to compete tomorrow.

–Craig

Day 3[]

The twenty castaways meet Probst for the Immunity Challenge. Jeff asks how the game has changed now that everyone is on the same tribe. Libby states it's one big pandemonium as no one knows where they stand, and who's aligned with who. Jeff then brings out two bags of rocks, one for each gender. Both bags contain five red rocks and five blue rocks, and the color the castaways receive will be their team color for this challenge only. Jeff reminds them that they will still remain as one tribe, only that the losing team will be the only group going to Tribal Council. The teams are:

  • Red Team: Angela, Craig, Delaney, Damon, Jayden, Joseph, Kai, Libby, Loretta and Miriam
    • Paddlers: Craig, Kai, Libby, Jayden, Angela and Loretta (Damon and Joseph insist they are of better help in the puzzle, being able to carry the heavy blocks for Delaney and Miriam; in truth, they just want someone else to do the puzzle so the attention is off them while they take the idol from the flagpole)
    • Puzzle Solvers: Delaney, Joseph, Damon and Miriam
  • Blue Team: Audrey, Deejay, Francis, Gilbert, Ivy, Janice, Shana, Shelby, Taylor and Tim
    • Paddlers: Audrey, Deejay, Francis, Janice, Taylor and Tim
    • Puzzle Solvers: Ivy, Gilbert, Shana and Shelby

The blue team establishes and maintains a healthy lead over read as most of the blue team's muscle are dragging the wagon. The red team struggles on the obstacle course prompting Jeff to yell at them to dig deep. Damon and Joseph start to regret their decision to stay behind and do the puzzle; with Damon saying that he might not have the opportunity to grab the idol because the red team lost without even heading out to sea yet. The blue team's lead evaporates as they capsize as they reach their puzzle pieces. This disaster closes the gap for the red team, with Craig leading the paddling. Damon is glaring over the flag where the idol is hidden, waiting for the right time to grab it. The red team is almost on at shore when the blue team finally recovers and reaches their puzzle blocks. The red team begins assembling their puzzle with Miriam calling the shots. The red team's puzzle seems to be nearly complete but their last three pieces do not fit. They find themselves dismantling everything while the blue team returns to shore, with Libby taking the reins from Miriam. With everyone's attention on the puzzle solvers, Damon seizes the opportunity and grabs the idol behind the flag. Damon further covers his tracks by verbally helping out his teammates. In a close finish, the blue team wins immunity by one puzzle piece, sending the red team to Tribal Council.

It's going to be a very wild afternoon. Half of the tribe is going to Tribal Council and everyone's feet hadn't gotten wet enough. The winning half could still influence the vote, and that scares me. This game got turned on its head.

–Angela

Back at camp, Damon and Joseph congratulate themselves for finding the idol. Both weigh in their options. Joseph states he whittled down his options between Libby and Miriam. The missionary is torn between Libby's superb puzzle solving prowess and Miriam's trustworthiness. Damon states he can trust Miriam more in the long run. Libby calls Damon, asking him for his voting options. To make her feel comfortable, Damon only says he is leaning towards voting Miriam.

Libby is annoying. She is. You have to appease her ten thousand teams before she gets off your hair. I just told her what she wanted to hear so she can go away.

–Damon

Libby then goes to Jayden and Kai. Kai states he is annoyed by Miriam's personality quirks (i.e. talking in a matter of fact tone). Libby jokes along, saying she hates being called "Liberty".

I am doing whatever I can to get rid of Miriam. She's a hindrance. She is too socially awkward, and that's the hindrance. Short run, she can be insufferable. Long run, she is an easy goat to take to the end because no one would bother vote her out.

–Libby

Meanwhile, Craig takes Miriam, telling her he will do whatever he can to help her convince people to vote Libby instead. Miriam exclaims to Craig her desire to play but people already typecast her for being an Amish and not want anything to do with her.

Miriam is fickle-minded. It's not about her being Amish anymore. She needs to pick herself up, go on her own and play. I need her for numbers so I'm doing whatever I can to save her.

–Craig

Miriam catches Libby talking to Loretta and Angela about taking her out. Miriam finally loses her cool and confronts Libby. Miriam argues that Libby never bothered to get to know her, saying she does not know the extent of Miriam's grasp outside her Amish community, and she is not as backward as she comes across to her. Libby is left stunned seeing Miriam's dormant fighter side. Craig, who is talking to Delaney and Damon into saving Miriam over Libby, is caught by surprise, seeing that after all, Miriam does have some fight in her.

Who knew Miriam actually had it in her? [to confront Libby]

–Craig

Meanwhile, Audrey and Shana speculate who would be voted out next. Shana approaches Delaney, saying it is for her best interest to vote Libby because she has roamed around camp enough to know a lot of things about everyone.

I'm not going to Tribal tonight, but it is important for me to still influence the vote because it could affect me later. I told Delaney about Libby's pandering these past few days. While she's aggravating the hell out of me, Libby knows too much. Miriam can be controlled, and Libby is high maintenance.

–Shana

Shana makes a sound judgment call. Libby can win any argument and she knows stuff but she is a loose cannon, and she has talked to almost everyone. I'm the only one in my alliance who's going to Tribal tonight, so as long as it's not me, I'm fine.

–Delaney

At Tribal Council, Jeff asks Libby how was the tribe dynamics when everyone's on the same tribe. The Yale graduate says everyone's talking to each other and it has been a challenge for everyone to have a degree of footing because social relationships are still spread too thin. Jeff brings up their loss at the challenge and he sets his sights on Miriam. Miriam admits her lack of expertise on puzzles, but she felt at the time everyone's being conservative, waiting for someone else to call the shots so she stepped up. Loretta joins in, saying no one would want to take the leadership role because no one wants to take blame if they lose the challenge; and lauds Miriam for doing so, proving she is actually playing to win. Taking Loretta's statement as a form of support for Miriam, Libby calls Miriam out because she haphazardly sent herself out there barking orders when she was unsure how to assemble the puzzle in the first place. Miriam fights back, saying Libby should have stepped up earlier that she did. Intrigued by the tension between the two, he asks if the two harbor animosity towards each other. Miriam says Libby dislikes her because she was Amish, implying she cannot do anything. Libby defends herself, saying she never said any of those claims, but Miriam once again interjects, saying she never bothered to get to know her and her actions implied her low opinion of her. Jeff therefore concludes that the vote is between Miriam and Libby. The votes are in, and with 9 votes to 1, Libby's verbosity and prejudice against Miriam do her in, making her the first person voted out of Survivor: The Caribbean.
